Why become a financial planner

Behind every successful life plan, there’s often solid financial planning. Becoming a financial planner (F.Pl.) allows you to guide people toward their goals, help them build financial security, and make a real impact.

Changing lives through financial planning

Being a planner is more than just talking about money. It’s a career at the heart of major life decisions: education, buying a home, family, retirement, entrepreneurial projects. Think of it as being a GPS for someone’s financial journey.

It’s a profession where analytical rigor meets attentive listening. You’ll find solid career prospects, a deep sense of accomplishment, and tangible impact on people’s lives. Stand out in a market where people seek pros with a 360-degree perspective... The F.Pl. designation is your ticket to a rewarding, exciting, and meaningful career.

A rewarding career in financial planning

Your career can take off right from the start.

A 2025 study conducted by Lussier for the Institute surveyed over 600 financial planners across Québec and revealed:

  • Within the first five years, the median income reaches $130,000, with 1 in 4 F.Pl.s earning $200,000 or more.
  • In the first year alone, the median income is already $81,000.
  • Some of the most experienced surpass $1 million annually (4.6%).

Compensation comes in many flavors: base salary, commissions, bonuses, or combinations. Simply put, everyone can find a setup that matches their ambitions.

Whether you aim for rapid growth, high earnings, or the freedom to create your own path, the financial planner profession offers outstanding financial prospects from day one.
