The Institute’s Professional Training Course

Your pathway to a financial planning diploma

The Institute’s Professional Training Course (PT Course) is required to obtain a financial planner diploma. It is the next step after academic training or its equivalent. This course, available in English and in French, consists of online classes supplemented by web modules, readings, and exercises. It provides an overview of the concepts you’ve already mastered in the seven areas of expertise and provides the necessary methodology to apply this knowledge to personal financial planning, through the use of case studies.

The PT Course is offered twice a year, in the spring and fall.

How to apply

Your application must include the following documents, as appropriate:

  • Final transcript for a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in financial planning or financial services

OR

  • Final transcripts for the financial planning certificate and two other certificates in administration, economics, law, actuarial science, or any other related field recognized by the Institute

You must have completed your university studies by the time you submit your application.

Your complete application must be received and paid for no later than August 1 for the fall session and February 1 for the spring session to ensure that it is reviewed before registration opens.

If you submit your application before the deadline and your application is accepted, you will be able to register for your classes as soon as registration opens. Applying on time boosts your chances of getting your preferred class times and receiving your course materials before the start of the session.

Applications received after the deadline
(August 1 for the fall session and February 1 for the spring session) will still be processed, but we cannot guarantee that a decision will be made before your desired start date. If accepted, late applicants may register for classes provided that space is still available and the last Virtual Class 1 – Progress Information has not passed.
