Your journey begins here

Welcome to the profession!

Your diploma from the Institute marks the beginning of a rich and rewarding career. Financial planning is much more than just expertise: it is the art of supporting people in their dreams, their plans, and their most important decisions. You are now part of a committed community that places rigor and human values at the heart of everything it does.

The Institute of Financial Planning: your professional alma mater

The Institute is the pillar of the financial planning profession in Quebec. It acts as a driving force for the profession, promoting excellence, competence, and rigor in the practice of financial planning.

To better understand the role of the Institute and the people who govern it, explore the following resources.

The professional designation

The F.Pl. designation (financial planner) is reserved exclusively for individuals who have obtained the Institute's financial planning diploma and hold a license issued by the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF). This designation is protected and regulated by law.

  • In English, the designation is written “F.Pl.”, with each part capitalized, a period after each part, and no space between the two parts.
  • In French, it is written "Pl. Fin.", also with capital letters and periods, but with a space between the two parts.

Are you an affiliate of the Institute?

Anyone who holds the F.Pl. designation is automatically considered an affiliate of the Institute, which gives them access to a professional community, exclusive resources, and opportunities to get involved.
