The Institute of Financial Planning: your professional alma mater
The Institute is the pillar of the financial planning profession in Quebec. It acts as a driving force for the profession, promoting excellence, competence, and rigor in the practice of financial planning.
To better understand the role of the Institute and the people who govern it, explore the following resources.
The professional designation
The F.Pl. designation (financial planner) is reserved exclusively for individuals who have obtained the Institute's financial planning diploma and hold a license issued by the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF). This designation is protected and regulated by law.
- In English, the designation is written “F.Pl.”, with each part capitalized, a period after each part, and no space between the two parts.
- In French, it is written "Pl. Fin.", also with capital letters and periods, but with a space between the two parts.
Are you an affiliate of the Institute?
Anyone who holds the F.Pl. designation is automatically considered an affiliate of the Institute, which gives them access to a professional community, exclusive resources, and opportunities to get involved.

Professional Development: a commitment to the quality and evolution of the practice
Professional development is essential to keeping your skills up to date, deepening your knowledge, and ensuring the quality of your work. It is an integral part of your career as a financial planner.
